Planning Your Thailand Holidays

Thailand holidays can be customized to fit virtually any traveler's budget and personal tastes. Because tourism is such a vital part of the Thai economy (representing a larger percentage of Thailand's GDP than that of any other Asian nation), almost every part of the country is equipped with food and lodging catered toward foreign visitors. Furthermore, the nation's amazingly diverse geography offers a wide range of activities to choose from. No matter what it is that you'd like to do on your holiday, there are surely several, easily-accessible places in Thailand that offer it at a price that fits your budget.

Planning Your Thailand Holiday

Upcoming Movie

For most of us, the first steps in planning any holiday includes setting a budget, determining how long our holiday will last, anddeciding when we can go. As you walk through these steps in planning your Thailand holiday, here are a few important points to consider:

The price of lodging in Thailand runs the gamut from as low as around £8 GBP per day (about $ 5 AUD/USD) for a bed in a hostel, all the way up to hundreds of pounds per night for five-star accommodations at world-class, international hotels In my personal opinion (and this is shared by a great number of foreign travelers I've met over the years), you should plan on spending a minimum of 10-14 days in Thailand during your holiday if you want to visit the country's major attractions without being rushed Because Thailand's tropical climate is hot, humid, and rainy for much of the year, the country's "high season" for tourism is during thecomparatively drier, cooler months of November through February

Some additional thoughts on these points ...

With regards to prices for food and lodging, while it is accurate to say that daily rates covers quite a wide spectrum, it is also true that you can find many incredible deals throughout the country if you know when and where to look. For example, in September 2010 I was able to book four nights at a legitimate, five-star luxury hotel in one of the most-popular sections of Bangkok (Thailand's most-expensive city) for just under £ 90 GBP per night (that's approximately $ 60 AUD/USD). In an upcoming article, I'll discuss some of the most-effective strategies for finding bargains that maximize your holiday budget.

When determining how much time to spend in Thailand,it's important to remember that, for those of us traveling from an English-speaking country, our holiday will include at least two very long airplane flights (on the way there, and the return trip), and adjusting our body clocks to a significant time difference. For me, this leads to a feeling that jetlag and travel always shortens my actual time in-country by two days. I'll pad the amount of time I expect to spend seeing the sights, or relaxing by two extra days for this reason.

As for choosing a time of year to visit, avoiding the hot, humid summer and autumn monsoon Thai is a valid consideration for many travelers. Temperatures often approach 40° C during those months which, coupled with the tropical humidity and almost-daily thunderstorms, can be a bit overwhelming for somevisitors. The flipside of this equation is that airfares and lodging are dramatically cheaper during this so-called "Low Season". If you're on a tight budget, and don't mind a little heat and rain, you'll find that your hard-earned money stretches a lot further at this time of year.

The Five Regions of Thailand-Where Should I Go?

To see the remarkable amount of geographic and cultural diversity that exists within Thailand, all you have to do is compare the country's five unique regions: the Central, East, North, Northeast, and South. Depending on how much time you're able to spend in-country, you may be able to visit all five during one stay (personally, I wouldn't try this unless I had a whole month to spend on holiday). If your time is more limited, you should probablyfocus on no more than two or three areas, and leave the others for future Thai holidays.

Central

Because the vast majority of foreign tourists arrive and depart from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, it's highly likely that your visit to Thailand will include a stay in the nation's capital. A bustling city of 11 million (most Bangkok residents will tell you that this official estimate is probably low by as much as 50%) and the heart of Central Thailand, Bangkok offers its visitors a fascinating cross-section of the nation's past, present and future. Here you'll find everything from the historic Royal Palace (dating back to the Kingdom of Siam), to ultra-modern shopping malls, vibrant entertainment districts, and a thriving business center that is quicklybecoming the largest in Southeast Asia.

Central Thailand's other primary attractions include the historic city of Ayutthaya (Siam's ancient capital), and the western coast of the Gulf of Thailand. This part of the gulf coast is especially popular with Thai families and honeymooners thanks to its quiet, clean beaches, abundance of affordable hotels and resorts, gorgeous golf courses, and relative proximity to Bangkok (about two-and-a-half hours by car). If you're looking for a quiet beach getaway, that's close enough to Bangkok that you won't need an airplane or boat to get there, the gulf towns of Hua Hin and Phetchaburi are perfect for you.

East

The region generally considered as Eastern Thailand lies to the southeast of Bangkok, and is bordered by the Gulf of Thailandto the west, and Cambodia to the east. Home to the growing coastal city of Chonburi and the popular tourist destination of Pattaya, the main attraction of this area is the proximity of its beaches to Bangkok (less than a two-hour drive).

Whereas western gulf resorts like Hua Hin tend to primarily attract Thai nationals, the eastern gulf is a magnet for western tourists thanks to Pattaya's notoriety as one of the world's wildest party towns. This bawdy image has been slowly changing in recent years, however, as developers have opened a string of new family-oriented resorts and attractions along Pattaya Beach and its surrounding areas.

North

Northern Thailand is distinctly different from the rest of the country in terrain, climate, and culture. Bordering Myanmar (Burma)and Laos to its north, the region is mountainous, heavily-forested, and noticeably cooler than anywhere else in the country (particularly in the High Season). The Wool culture (a hybrid between Thai, Burmese and Laotian influences) prevails throughout the region, and can be seen in the décor, dress, and food offerings in cities like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

The principal city in the north, Chiang Mai is Thailand's second-largest and an absolute must for any visitor to the country. The heart of Chiang Mai is still surrounded by a moat and 1.000-year-old fortifications that protect some of Southeast Asia's oldest, and most-important, temples, while the rest of the city is dotted with universities, art galleries, and enough lodging and entertainment options to satisfy any type oftraveler.

Chiang Mai is also the jumping off point for backpackers to explore the area's famous mountain trails, as well as anyone who is looking for outdoor adventure activities like white water rafting, elephant safaris (i.e., riding an elephant off into the jungle for a day or two), and otherwise getting up close to the region's wildlife (including monkeys and tigers). There are so many exhilarating things to do in this part of the country that you're guaranteed to enjoy yourself.

Northeast

Thailand's northeast (dominated by the provinces of Isaan) is a heavily agricultural region that borders both Laos and Cambodia along the Mekong River. Khmer culture (i.e., ethnic Cambodian) is the prevailing influence on Isaan's people and the majority speak the Khmer language, addition to Thai and several other regional dialects. This influence is also seen in Isaan cuisine, which is distinct from traditional Thai food for its heavy use of sticky rice, and extremely spicy chilies.

While this relatively undeveloped part of the country has not been a traditional tourist destination, recent government projects (notably the restoration of numerous ancient archaeological sites, Khmer) and the rapid economic growth of Isaan's major cities Buriram and Khon Kaen have begun to draw more visitors over the past decade. The city of Khon Kaen is of particular interest to anyone interested in making a land crossing into Cambodia.

South

When talking about the south of Thailand, the first names that come to mind are Phuket, Koh Samui, and Koh Phi Phi (betterknown to foreigners as the Phi Phi Islands). White, sandy beaches, sky-blue water, and idyllic settings that look like they're straight out of a Hollywood movie set (mostly because they are, but that's for a later article) are what define this region of the country. In short, it's your run-of-the-mill tropical paradise.

The south of Thailand is generally considered to be the thin peninsula that separates the Gulf of Thailand from the Andaman Sea, and extends all the way south to the border with Malaysia. This stretch of land, and the islands that skirt both of its coasts, are home to some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world, as well as world-class facilities for every other water sport imaginable. That's all in addition to the incredible beaches, lagoons, andpanoramas that the area is so famous for. With that said, I'm sure that it comes as no surprise that I highly recommend you include at least one of this region's fantastic resorts on your Thailand holiday.

The Hardest Part of Your Thailand Holiday-Getting There

Well, it may not be entirely accurate to say that the hardest part of your Thai holiday will be finding a way to get there. It's more likely to be forcing yourself to board the plane home at the end of your stay. I once heard it said that the only place in the Land of Smiles "where you don't see happy people is the international departure lounge at the airport. More often than not, that seems to be true.

In all seriousness though, finding an affordable airfare has usually been the most difficult piece to put inplace when I've planned my holidays to Thailand. With the price of jet fuel continuing to soar, this has become even more difficult over the last couple of years. In many cases, I find that I wind up spending as much on my airline ticket as I do on the entire rest of the holiday combined.

Nonetheless, there are a few helpful techniques I've acquired over the years that generally lead me to the lowest available prices at the time of my departure. They require a great deal of flexibility with regards to departure days and times (and you won't be getting any non-stop flights to Bangkok), but I do feel confident that they save me money in the end. I'll delve into this subject in detail in the near future.

Four Ways of Eliminating Blockages on Our Path

The four F's that helps us move forward when there seem to be obstacles on the path we have chosen.

But before I mention them; the most important thing anyone can do, is to see the obstacles as stepping stones, and always remember that many, if not most, of every successful person has gone through tough times, so do your best to see them as signs of your own upcoming success.

Upcoming Movie

Faith. The answer to your prayers is in the faith that you have. Faith has to be present. It must be chosen over and over again until it has replaced fear. Knowing that we always make that choice, even if it is subconsciously, makes it easier to make the choice with awareness.

Focus. On the right things no matter what! It's easy to get caught up in the problem, especially if it is somethinghuge like you're about to lose your home or something, but if we are going to think anyway, why not thinking about what; s going right, what is going well? Where attention goes, energy flows.

Fun. We must lose our tension, not take everything so seriously and get ourselves back to this moment and look at whatever it is that we are facing, it's only temporary. It will pass, whatever it is, and the more relaxed we can be in the midst of troubles, the easier we are in the receiving state of solutions.

Laughter loses tension, why not even laugh at the problem. I have done that myself, and it's liberating. If we could just take one night off of problems and watch a funny movie or something while saying "I don't know what to do, but I know that God knows, so you take care of it for meGod. "Thank you".

Forgiveness. We must forgive whatever has been in the past, otherwise we just drag the energy with us to the Now.

For example; whatever bad relationships we have been in the past, we must forgive and let go of all negative emotions before we can enter into a new one if we want the new one to be a happy one. If not, we carry the energy of resentment or old memories that still hurts into the new relationship and we could pretty much doomed it before we said our first ' hello ' before the new person came along. The thoughts of the old relationship and all the resentment will turn this new person to a not so attractive and charming one anymore, because the old vibe is being projected towards this new person who might be the most wonderful person you have evermet.

So, if you are going through something right now; check with yourself:

How is my faith? Where is my focus? When was the last time I had fun, that I laughed? Do I need to forgive someone and let go of negative emotions?

FAITH-FOCUS-FUN-FORGIVENESS will help remove any blockages!

Dating Tips For Men On How To Be As Charming As James Bond

Partly due to our upbringing, some guys have less success than others in dating women. But for guys who have reasonable success with women, the following tips can help them to be a better man, the type of guy that girls like to stick around with, like James Bond.

Here are the ways you can be ahead of other guys in achieving this:

Upcoming Movie

(1) Teasing her

Always maintain some degree of mysterious at all times to make her curious to find out more about you. Give away some of the puzzle, but not the whole thing.

For example, if a woman asks you what you do for a living, tell her, then stop and do not go into the details yet.

If you have a lofty-sounding job title, such as Executive Vice President, do not bother mentioning about it. If she is keen on knowing aboutthe specifics about your job or career, she will ask.

If you have a job that is less impressive, you can just mention in general terms and from there you can steer her attention to other topics. For example, you can say: "I work in the financial sector where the hours are long and work is quite challenging. For relaxation purpose, I have a hobby that I am extremely passionate about.

Whether you have a lucrative career or not, give the impression at first, that it is not that important to you. Portray yourself as confident but modest, like you are the type of guy who does not want women to be attracted to him because of his career or his bank account-just as they do not want men to judge them solely by their looks.

Teasing is the fastest way to bring down a woman'sdefense. But be careful, not to tease her appearance and religious beliefs or do it in any way to make her feel "insulted. Through teasing:

(a) You show her that you are confident and are not intimidated by her. Most men are intimidated by attractive women and this will make them look like lacking in confidence.

(b) You show your playful side and do not take things too seriously when talking to women. When the fear of rejection dominates your thoughts, you will not be able to feel relaxed and may come across as being too dead serious which is a real turn-off to women.

(c) She has to prove herself. When you are thinking of how to talk to women, you are probably trying to prove your value to her. Teasing reverses this and this denies her from gaining any upper hand againstyou.

(2) Make her work for your attention

To make her beg for your attention, you give her a little bit of attention and then you pull a little bit away. It is this "push-pull" that makes seduction fun to women and holds their attention.

Every time you talk to a woman, focus on making it a good emotional experience to her. Try to make her feel good but do not go out all in trying to please her. Just talk about any fun topics. Make her feel good about herself by complimenting her about the stuff you like. The aim is to reward her emotionally for talking to you.

For example, if she says: "My job sucks, I work as a receptionist."

You can steer her away to something by saying: "Ah, besides work, I am sure you are passionate about something? What is it? "

Thiswill give her lots of chance to rant and rave about something she likes. As a result, she will feel emotionally enjoyable by talking to you and this can encourage her to open up further, extending to other topics.

(3) Building a rapport with her

In order to get any woman you want, you need to bond with her first and this will be by means of talking with her.

You may have read about some pick-up lines to use when approaching women. In reality, there is no "one-size fits all" plan because not all women are the same and every circumstance in meeting them will be different too. Recall that during our military training, the first thing our training instructor told us was APPRECIATION OF THE SITUATION. This is also applicable to meeting women. This means studying theenvironment under which you meet her and based on the situation making some improvisations and adjustments.

There is this saying about when it comes to chatting with a girl, give a guy enough rope and he usually ends up hanging himself. This means the more he talks, the higher the chances he will say something that causes her to lose interest on him. Listening and "invisibly" guiding the conversation by asking open-ended non-intimate questions will increase her comfort level with you.

Success in learning how to talk to women is more about trying not to make mistakes like bragging, talking about other women in your life and asking the wrong questions.

The most important thing to take note when approaching women is to get mentally prepared that at times things may not workwell and you have to "cut loss and run". This can be due to mistakes you unconsciously make or she has some personality problems. By keeping an open mind to possible failure and prepare to walk away, you will be more able to "act naturally" or spontaneously to be yourself. If you are not overly bothered by each outcome in your encounter with women, your mind will be more at ease and you are more likely to come across to her as a confident and attractive guy.

It is just like in soccer or cricket matches, the championship team does not necessarily have to win every match. It just has to lose as little as it can and win significantly in crucial matches. The same applies to dating women.

Another thing to watch out for is the "baiting" questions "that women ask you. They may slip into aninnocent-sounding question in an attempt to test you. If you fail this test, it may extinguish any interest she has in you.

Common baiting question is, "Why you do not have a girlfriend?" She is trying to find out if you are a playboy or whether you have any defects that drive most women away. This is not the time to be cocky or trying to act funny by saying, "I have dated many girls but I am not ready to settle down." Instead tell her, "I am not in a hurry to rush into a relationship until I meet the right girl."

Another baiting question women may ask is, "Have you ever cheated on any one of your girlfriends?" This is not the time for honesty. It is never a good idea to talk about your past sexual conquests, whether they involved cheating or not. Instead deflect thisquestion by saying, "When I am in a relationship, I expect the other person to be loyal and committed and I hold myself to the same standard."

(4) Making her feel the time spent with you is not enough

Many relationships die off for 2 main reasons:

(a) Too much time together
(b) Too much time apart

Spending all your time with a woman especially in the early stages of a relationship can be suffocating. It is very important t maintain your own life outside of the relationship. Keep doing those things that you enjoy and hang out with your friends. In this way, not only you can keep your own identity, you will also have some thins interesting to talk about when you see her.

In order for a relationship to be more long-lasting, you should spend just enough timetogether to make her want more time with you. So you should meet her, hang out and have fun and leave early enough to make her want more. Always leave her on a high note so that she can have fond memories of you especially if you both did something enjoyable and fun together. Arrange fun dates such as walking to some interesting or unique places, or fun events such as cooking or baking together, rather than just going to the movies.

One of the ways to make your dates more interesting is to be spontaneous. For example, you can check out on any upcoming events so that you can try some unconventional dating ideas. This can make her feel you are fun to be with.

10 Ideas For a Money-Making Blog

Developing an informative, useful blog can pay off big in certain niches. Not only is it a place where people can go to get exactly what they are looking for, but if you do it right, it will be a place where people can come back.

Advantages of a Blog over to Regular Site

Upcoming Movie

There are several advantages of a blog over a static site or even a static page like HubPages or Squidoo. The first advantage is that the content is changing and growing in size, making your blog an authority on a given subject.

The second advantage is that because more useful content is being weekly or even daily, it's a place for readers to come back to. It's not a one-time deal.

How do they make money?

There are a few different ways to make money. You could sell ads in the sidebar. You could display pay-per-click ads like Google's AdSense or Kontera. You could sell your own products or sell affiliate products. Or, you could seek out sponsorships and write paid reviews. The opportunities for making money are endless.

10 Money-Making Blog Ideas

Review Blogs

Books: Think outside of the box a little. Develop a niche book site, rather than a full-blown Amazon wannabe site. If you like mystery novels, created a mystery novel review site. Or if you like chick lit (novels written for women-usually single women in their mid 20s to late 30s), create a blog for reviews just for those types of books.

Movies: Same thing as above. Don't just create another movie review site. Carve out a niche and specialize in it. You will be a lot more useful and willdevelop a more devoted following that way.

Food Blogs

Recipes: Recipes are a great way to get started, and food blogs can be heavily sponsored. There are entire advertising networks just for food blogs. Many people turn to the Internet these days to look for recipes. Hint: Watch the most popular food television programs and develop recipes that they use, and then publish them on your blog.

Coupons/Discounts: People are also always searching for coupons at restaurants or grocery stores. You could go one of two ways here. You could develop a food-centered blogs that gets lots of visitors every day, and then pitch your coupon/discount site idea to local restaurant owners, or, you could just publish coupons that already exist online (linking to them). Many sites like that haveaffiliate programs.

Music Blogs

Local Concert Reviews: Are you into the local music scene? Why not create a blog that reviews recent concerts in your area? At first, you could monetize the blog with pay-per-click ads, but as it grows, you could display an upcoming concert calendar, and charge bands to get listed there, or, you could become an affiliate of a ticket provider and sell concert tickets through your site.

Upcoming New Releases: Going with the same concept above, if you have a friend in radio or are just really ahead of the curve musically, you could create a site that lists and describes the upcoming new album releases. Again, you can easily monetize this type of blogs with pay-per-click ads or you could sell regular advertising in the sidebar.

MovieBlogs

Best Of: Know a lot about a particular actor or actress? Fan sites can be very lucrative if done well. Say you created a Best of John Malkovich. Your blog could focus on his best films, and you could link to them on Amazon and make a commission. Your best bet with this type of blog is to (1) keep up with the actor so it can also talk about recent news, and (2) use multiple forms of monetization, such as pay-per-click, commissions from sales, and traditional advertising.

Upcoming New Releases: Same concept as the one described under Music above, except that you will really need to develop a niche if you want to make money. Money-making niche ideas for movies are Sci-Fi, Kids, and Documentaries.

Rare Finds: Nothing is worse than searching for a movie online andnot being able to find it. This kind of blog, a Rare Finds blog, could take off very well. You could build it slowly, creating a separate post for each rare find you come across. Hint: if you already have these rare finds you are willing to sell, fantastic, but if you don't, spend some time every day searching for them. If they are inexpensive, buy them, because you can resell them on your own blog for much more, because they are rare.

Movie Review-Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Movie: Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows (2011)

Directed by Guy Ritchie.

Upcoming Movie

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Stephen Frye, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris.

I have so many feelings about this move that in order to be coherent, I'm going to have to look at one aspect of the movie at a time.

1. The plot: One of the (few) flaws of the first Holmes installment was the mystery and villain. While almost everything else in the movie was spot-on, the actual diabolical plot turned out to be pretty transparent. This installment remedies this. While the mystery is still, at heart, fairly straight-forward, Moriarty's planning and execution of such a complex scheme with so many moving parts is impressive and, thankfully, worthy of such an iconic nemesis. Because the plotis much more political and clever, the movie itself is a little slower than the first one, though it is in no way less interesting or lacking in action.

In the middle of all the political intrigue, we have two big some subplots that really take over by infusing a human element to movie. First we have the upcoming nuptials of Watson, which we saw Holmes balking at in the last movie. In this movie, we don't see him balking so much as resigning himself to a life of loneliness. On the other hand, we see Watson starting to realize that while his life is full, Holmes ' life is not. He is Holmes ' only friend and that is a hard place to be for any person. Then we have Holmes and Moriarty's mental chess game (and literal chess game at one point). Holmes has finally come up against someone that hecannot wow with his mental prowess. He tries to confront him with his usual brash style and faces a man who is unimpressed and heartless. It is at the moment-when Holmes realizes that Moriarty is not above cutting down everything and everyone in Holmes ' life that we realize this movie is serious business.

We also have plenty of symbolism which was kind of refreshing because the first movie seemed to lack it, and because it is not heavy-handed. There are running symbols throughout the movie, including devil imagery tied up with Moriarty, the fisher and the trout, and the story, of course, chess pieces. These symbols help us to realize that the mystery is not really what we're watching-we are watching Holmes and Moriarty. We are watching Holmes and Watson. Everything else isjust caught in their gravity.

2. The acting: Superb. Everyone brings their best. Robert Downey Jr. plays Holmes with the same childish humor from last time, but with a nice dose of fear and anger at the danger Moriarty poses (and the damage he's done and threatens to do to Holmes personally). The script, which is a little darker in some places than the first movie, calls for Downey to swing from impishness to pain and vulnerability fairly quickly and Downey handles it delicately. Law is back to perfection as the feistier, smarter Watson that he created in the first movie. He's torn between a co-dependent man who obviously loves and needs him and a life full of normalcy. It's not an easy choice and even when Watson is seething at Holmes, we understand that he cares more for him thatperhaps anyone else in his life. Stephen Frye isn't given much to do as Mycroft Holmes, but the fact that the elder Holmes was supposed to be even more eccentric than Sherlock is something that could have been a disaster but is done well in Frye's hands. Jared Harris as Moriarty is great-he's benevolent and well-spoken. He's not a psychopath. He's a "sociopath". He's calm and collected and just so practical that human collateral means nothing to him. This calmness makes the few moments where he is overtly sinister (he engages in a little torture at one point, complete with hearty opera singing at the same time-he's quite the multi-tasker) all that much more startling.

3. The cinematography: Beautiful. Watching movies like this makes me want to know more about camera work andwhatnot. But not being very knowledgeable about how things are done, I can just say that the entire film is beautiful. Ritchie certainly knows how to film people and things so that they look their best. This also translates over to the action ...

4. The action Holmes: This installment starts off a little slow. It is necessary to have Holmes more mentally than physically engaged in conflict, but the fight scenes are still breathtaking and we still see inside Holmes ' mind as he plots out what needs to be done. While this works, it also helps stylistically us see how ordered Holmes ' brain has to be just to survive in a world filled with stimulations.

The last half hour or so of the movie really ramps up on the action and doesn't disappoint. Ritichie employs painfully slow slow-motiontechniques, but somehow manages to still have a frenetic edge. The last gunfight is just absolutely beautiful.

I won't get into the loveliness of the ending. I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say it Ritchie manages to infused just tiny moments with emotions that many directors can't seem to pull off their entire movies.

5 out of 5 stars and I recommend this movie to anyone.

Satellite Internet is the Key to a Good Night's Sleep

There are dozens of different sources for stress these days. Many people feel the burn of their weekly grind at work: showing up before 9:0 am and spending more than twelve hours a day toiling away on projects and meetings can leave even the most passionate and dedicated employee burnt out before Friday. For others, stress creeps up from the pressures and fears that result from raising a family in a constantly changing and increasingly dangerous world: worrying about whether or not your child is safe when he or she is out at the mall with friends, or even when he or she is simply spending the night at another person's home is far from uncommon. Many parents, especially new ones, lose a lot of sleep and add on a lot of stress from these types of situations. For others still, worriesas in the form of much smaller, seemingly less significant things, like what to eat that night for dinner, what new television to spend your money on and buy, or what movie to buy as a gift for your cousins upcoming birthday party. Regardless of where it stems from, people are constantly forced to deal with stressful issues.

That being said there are some stress-related decisions that seem difficult, but are actually rather simple to deal with. When people are deciding on what internet service provider to use for access to the web on a regular basis, they often pour over prices and reviews to the point that the process becomes an exhausting one. For those, there is a simple answer to this seemingly perplexing question: satellite internet is bar far the smartest and best choice foranybody who relies on the internet the way most modern Americans do. With unmatched spend and reliability, a satellite broadband internet connection is the only real way to go if you are serious about the web.

With satellite internet, you can cut your browsing time in half. With speeds up to 50 times faster than conventional dial-up connections, satellite internet will allow you to fly through your web-based work and have more time away from your desk and computer to spend however you see fit. Feeling stressed out because all your time is spent sitting in front of your computer? Consider how much more free time you will have if you can browse the web in a fraction of the time it once took you. For example, students will be able to complete research projects in less time, providingthem more time to socialize, practice sports and musical instruments, as well as help out with chores around the house. A businessman or woman will be able to get his or her work done quicker, allowing them to focus on life's more important things such as spending time with friends and family (rather than mindlessly staring at a monitor for hours on end).

A Few Sobering Statistics

The statistics about family communication are pretty bleak. According to Parenting.com, Positive the average American child communicates with his or her parents for a mere 12 1/2 minutes each day. The report goes on to state that, on average, the ratio of negative to positive comments is 400 to 32 (daily).

One of the major objectives of parents and families is in building self-esteem. Children who feel valued by their families (parents, siblings, extended family) typically have a higher sense of self. However, when that task is placed next to the statistics, it seems that families could use some concrete tools and a planof action for building the connections that lead to family members to feel valued.

The Tool

Family meetings can take many forms and have a wide variety of purposes. The format can (and should) depend on the make-up of your family and their preferences. They can be informal events with take-out food. They can be quick meetings for specific purposes. They can even change from one week to the next based on the needs of the family. No matter the purpose, the goal remains the same: build stronger families by demonstrating the value of each member.

In order for family meetings to be successful, everyone must be involved. Parents usually provide the catalyst for meetings to begin. In fact, parental support or buy-in is extremely important to success. Once the family getsused to the pattern of events, children can begin to help facilitate the meetings. In any case, the rule of thumb is everyone listens and everyone is heard!

The Plan

The rules of each meeting should be tailored to the needs of your family, but there are some basic premises that need to be understood by all:

Family meetings need to rank high on the priority list (as important as any other business meeting or extracurricular event). Schedule a specific night and time for the meeting. Select a day and time that is typically free of business and extracurricular events. You may have to change the dates on a quarterly basis, but try to keep the date and time as consistent as possible. The purpose of the meeting is for everyone to keep in touch with what's going on with allmembers of the family. This means that everyone should bring something to the table (an event, suggestion, issue, etc.) and that everyone will be expected to respect others by listening without criticism. Keep a list on the refrigerator for family members to list points of discussion for the meeting. Doing this allows everyone to know what needs to be discussed. It will also help keep the meeting focused. If a topic is introduced, it is important. Members should not change the topic until everyone has had a chance to speak. Once a topic is introduced, it may be helpful for each family member to respond in a "round-the-table" manner. Once each person has spoken, each family member can request to speak again. In this way, each member has a chance for input without worry that one memberwill monopolize the entire conversation. The rules and content of each meeting need to reflect the values of each family member. The Gold members of your household may want an organized, succinct, but your Orange members will find that boring and repressive. Your Blue members will want to talk everything out, while your Green members will find that taxing. Alternate the events and content of your meetings. Perhaps put the formal, talk-it-out issues on the table first and move to the lighthearted playful issues later or vice-versa. This also gives all temperaments a chance to practice "doing" other colors in an atmosphere of support and encouragement!
Some Tips

The content of the meeting will be as unique as your family. One week, you might meet to discuss an upcomingschedule that is uncharacteristically frenetic. The next, the goal might be to determine the best ways to solve a nagging problem or to plan a night out with the whole family. Your meetings can be anything that they need to be, thus their content and length will vary. The one thing they should not be is a chore. Be sure to balance issues with fun-you are striving for positive interactions!

The purpose of a family meeting is to connect as a family. Many times, that means getting scheduling under control or problem solving to family issue. However, your meetings needn 't all revolve around those topics. There are many other sources of connection! Consider these opportunities for connection during your family meeting:

Allow a family member to decide where the family will go andwhat they will do for one meeting. They may decide to take everyone to a favorite restaurant, movie, putt-putt golfing, make a pizza at home night, etc. Introduces the "Family" Word for the week. Spend some time exploring that word using word association, art materials, and the like. Words that deal with ethics and values are great for this such as accountability, expectation, forgiveness, motivation, responsibility, etc. Take the whole family to the grocery store or mall for some shopping (or work together on some other household task). It will build an understanding of teamwork, money, budgeting, etc. Introduces a craft that the whole family can work on together. You may want to consider one where each person must contribute to ensure the success of the whole. Learn a newskill together, such as photography, website design, or baking.
The Bottom Line

In order to build and maintain positive connections it is important to communicate effectively and often. Rather than attempting to sneak in quality communication with the members of our family, we can schedule time that indicates in word and deed that family is important.
